BOONE, N.C. — App State running back Jaquari Lewis has been named the Sun Belt Conference Offensive Player of the Week after scoring four touchdowns in the Mountaineers’ thrilling 35-32 road victory over Coastal Carolina.
The sophomore from Fort Lauderdale, Florida, rushed for a season-high 85 yards on 13 carries and added two catches for 22 yards. Lewis became just the third App State running back in the program’s FBS era to score four rushing touchdowns in a game.
His four touchdowns marked the most rushing scores by a Mountaineer since Cam Peoples scored five in the 2020 Myrtle Beach Bowl, also played at Coastal Carolina’s Brooks Stadium.
Lewis found the end zone four times in the back-and-forth battle, helping App State tie the game at seven, take a 14-7 lead, pull within three points at 24-21, and reclaim the lead at 28-24.
The Mountaineers also turned in their best offensive performance of the season against an FBS opponent, recording 35 points, 516 total yards, and 253 rushing yards.
App State returns to The Rock this Thursday to host James Madison in a sold-out matchup. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. on ESPNU.
